Putrajaya: The proposed guidelines for Muslims attending events at non-Muslim houses of worship are set to be reviewed in tomorrow’s Cabinet meeting, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. This statement was made following his attendance at the launch of Audits on Government-Linked Companies at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government is contemplating a new set of guidelines that would govern the participation of Muslims in various activities, including celebrations, funerals, and ceremonies of non-Muslims. These guidelines are also expected to cover visits and events held at non-Muslim houses of worship. Religious Affairs Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, has previously stated that these guidelines aim to foster social and cultural harmony in Malaysia’s multi-religious society.
Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar elaborated that the guidelines are designed to help Muslims participate in celebrations or ceremonies of other religious groups in a manner that respects both the events and Islamic faith. Nonetheless, reports suggest that some groups have expressed concerns over the proposal, especially regarding the requirement to obtain permission from religious authorities for events involving Muslims.
