Tokyo: The Bank Rakyat BizMatch: Make Malaysian Businesses Great programme, currently underway in Tokyo, Japan, is poised to generate business deals exceeding RM500 million within the next year. This initiative is part of the Nikkei Forum: Future of Asia 2026. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong announced that this projection is derived from business matching sessions and discussions conducted on June 9 between Malaysian and Japanese companies. The programme, organized by Bank Rakyat with the support of the Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Ministry (MECD), has brought together seven Malaysian companies and 27 Japanese firms. These entities are exploring collaboration and market expansion opportunities across sectors such as food, agriculture, commodity-based manufacturing, and green technology. Minister Sim noted that the programme's potential to generate transactions exceeding RM500 million hinges on further negotiations, produ ct qualification processes, regulatory approvals, and the signing of commercial agreements. He emphasized that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's visit to Japan was not solely focused on large-scale investments and multinational corporations, but also aimed at creating new business opportunities for Malaysian micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to expand their international market presence. Sim highlighted that MECD is committed to empowering Malaysian MSMEs, especially amid ongoing global supply chain disruptions caused by geopolitical conflicts. This strategic approach aligns with MECD's ABCD framework, specifically the 'D' component - Drive Market Access, which focuses on expanding market access, building international business networks, and creating export opportunities for Malaysian companies. He also referenced the success of previous efforts, such as the 'Make Malaysian Businesses Great' business matching session held during the Makkah Halal Forum 2026 in Saudi Arabia, which generated potential transactions worth RM2 billion. Furthermore, Bank Rakyat has extended nearly RM300 million in financing to support the seven Malaysian companies participating in the BizMatch programme, aiding their operational expansion, capacity enhancement, and new market exploration.
