Kuala lumpur: The establishment of 10 Dewan Rakyat Special Select Committees (JKPK) about two years ago is seen as helping to ease tensions among Members of Parliament, said Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul. He noted that the inclusion of MPs from both government and opposition in each committee facilitates collective decision-making, which helps in bridging divides.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tan Sri Dr Johari highlighted that the presence of both sides in the select committees ensures that decisions are not partisan but collective. He emphasized that having members from both the government and opposition allows for decisions that are made jointly, which contributes to reducing tension. He likened the process to breaking down walls or lowering them, enabling better communication and cooperation among MPs.
Dr Johari made these remarks during a press conference after opening the World Public Relations Day (WPRD) 2025 programme at SEGi University. The existing JKPKs cover a range of vital sectors, including finance, economy, health, domestic trade, infrastructure, and education, among others. This diverse committee framework supports various aspects of national policy and development.
He further mentioned that his office has been actively funding seminars organized by the select committees in collaboration with local communities. These seminars have addressed topics such as ‘hybrid sado cattle’ and groundwater, and there is an upcoming seminar planned to focus on public housing issues.
