Azizulhasni Warns Of Difficult Road Ahead If Beasley Leaves

Kuala lumpur: National track cycling ace Datul Mohd Azizulhasni Awang believes Malaysian cycling could be heading down a difficult path should national cycling technical director John Beasley decide to leave his post. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azizulhasni described Beasley as the driving force behind the country's transformation into a world-class cycling force. He emphasized that Malaysia would face a significant challenge in finding someone capable of matching Beasley's expertise and commitment. Azizulhasni highlighted Beasley's exceptional skills in coaching, planning, and athlete development, coupled with his warm, family-oriented approach that has earned widespread respect and trust. It was reported yesterday that Beasley is set to leave his position at the end of the year, despite his current contract running until January 31 next year. His decision stems from growing frustration with politics, red tape, and a lack of grassroots infrastructure within Malaysian cycling. Azizulhasni, nicknamed 'The Pocket Rocketman', stressed that Beasley's commitment to Malaysia over the years should not be overlooked. The two-time Olympic Games medallist pointed out that Beasley had sacrificed personal and professional opportunities elsewhere to remain with the national programme. Beasley had turned down offers from other countries and left behind his family's cycling business in Melbourne, which had been running for more than 100 years, to focus on developing cycling in Malaysia. Azizulhasni expressed understanding of Beasley's disappointment when things do not go according to plan, after investing so much into the programme. He underscored that Malaysian cycling stands to lose much more than technical expertise should Beasley decide to move on. Azizulhasni warned that if Beasley leaves, it would be a loss of a leader who played a major role in putting Malaysia on the world stage. Apart from Azizulhasni, Beasley, who joined Malaysian cycling in the mid-2000s, had guided and seen the rise of other prominent cyc lists like Josiah Ng, Rizal Tisin, Fatehah Mustapa, Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom, and Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri, among others.
