APM Unveils APM@Gig Initiative for Volunteer Engagement in Gig Work

Gemas: The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) has launched the APM@Gig initiative, a program designed to enable volunteers and members to participate in gig work alongside their official duties. APM Chief Commissioner Datuk Aminurrahim Mohamed announced that this initiative is aimed at allowing skilled individuals within the force to offer gig-based services, particularly in risk or threat reduction and addressing current societal needs.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative includes activities such as cleaning work or other tasks in private or high-risk areas, with compensation or sponsorship. Importantly, these activities are structured to ensure they do not interfere with the core responsibilities of APM volunteers and members. The initiative was introduced alongside the ‘Sigap Efisien Depani Ancaman Risiko (SEdAR) programme, which focuses on minimizing or preventing risks to life and property. SEdAR specifically targets underserved areas, elderly communities, and disaster-prone locations.

The announcement was made following the launch of the SEdAR and APM@Gig programme at Felda Palong 9 in Gemas. Aminurrahim detailed that the SEdAR program’s objectives include fostering a more prepared and resilient community, offering alternatives to overcome risks and threats, and optimizing the skills of APM volunteers in their community service roles.

He also highlighted that the program offers opportunities for organizations, companies, and individuals to engage in corporate social responsibility. By participating, they contribute to risk reduction efforts, thereby ensuring the smooth operation of local community activities.
