Anwar and Sasakawa Tackle Global Conflicts and Strengthen Ties

Tokyo: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today exchanged views with Sasakawa Peace Foundation chairman Tan Sri Yohei Sasakawa on various regional and international issues, including the situation in Myanmar, the Israel-Iran conflict, and the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Palestine.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar shared in a Facebook post that he began the first day of his official visit to Japan with a meeting with Sasakawa, whom he described as a long-time friend. The meeting provided an opportunity for them to reflect on a long history of cooperation, including through the Forum 2000 initiative founded by former Czech president V¡clav Havel.

Anwar noted that the forum brings together global leaders, scholars, and thinkers to discuss issues related to democracy, human rights, peace, and the future of global civilisation. He also highlighted efforts to empower young people in Southeast Asia through leadership development programmes based on the Asian Renaissance concept, aimed at producing leaders with strong values, culture, and humanity.

Anwar expressed appreciation for Sasakawa's longstanding contributions to humanitarian efforts worldwide. He emphasized that peace efforts must continue to be supported by world leaders and the international community amid ongoing conflicts and humanitarian crises globally. 'Lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, understanding, and a shared commitment to upholding justice,' he said.

The Prime Minister arrived in Tokyo yesterday for a three-day visit to Japan until June 10 to strengthen bilateral ties and attend the 31st Nikkei Forum.
