Melaka: Former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has announced his willingness to resign as chairman of the Negeri Sembilan State Leadership Council (MPN) of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in light of the party's performance in the recent state election.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aminuddin acknowledged the calls from six PKR branch leaders in Negeri Sembilan who are urging the party to reassess its leadership following the outcome where PKR only secured two out of 15 contested state assembly seats. "I also take note of the demands of the six Negeri Sembilan branch leaders who want me to take responsibility for the defeat. I would like to state publicly that I agree with your demands," he stated.
Aminuddin made these remarks during his closing speech at the National Congress of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC). He emphasized his readiness to take responsibility and did not want to evade the situation or make excuses. He further indicated his trust in the party leadership to make the final decision regarding his position.
"The position is not mine; the trust belongs to the party. If the party sees that there is a decision that needs to be made for the future of Keadilan, I agree," Aminuddin remarked. He also conveyed that the recent defeat should not discourage their efforts, but rather serve as a catalyst for rebuilding the party.
In the state election on August 1, PKR managed to retain only the Chuah and Sri Tanjung seats among the 15 constituencies it contested in Negeri Sembilan. Additionally, Aminuddin himself faced defeat in the Linggi state seat, finishing with 6,163 votes against Barisan Nasional's (BN) Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli, who won with 9,139 votes, and Bersatu's Datuk Zamri Md Said, who garnered 391 votes.
