Kuala lumpur: Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora) collected approximately 3.2 tonnes of waste from three major areas in Kuala Lumpur during the 2026 New Year's Eve celebrations, marking an 11 per cent reduction compared to the 3.6 tonnes collected in 2025.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the cleanup operation, led by Alam Flora's chief executive officer, Shariman Yusuf Mohamed Zain, targeted high-traffic public areas, including Bukit Bintang, Dataran Merdeka, and the vicinity of Petronas Twin Towers (KLCC). The operation spanned from 10 pm on New Year's Eve until 8 am the following day, aiming to restore the city to a clean and welcoming state at the start of the new year.
KLCC recorded the highest amount of waste at 1.4 tonnes, followed by Bukit Bintang with one tonne, and Dataran Merdeka with 0.8 tonnes. A total of 152 personnel, including management staff, pre-cleaning teams, drivers, and general crews, participated in the cleanup operation. To facilitate proper waste disposal, 36 mobile garbage bins with a capacity of 660 litres and 25 bins with a capacity of 240 litres were strategically placed. Additionally, three compactor trucks were deployed for efficient waste collection, and water jets were used to clean pavements in high-footfall areas.
Shariman Yusuf highlighted that this year's waste collection was manageable, particularly at Bukit Bintang. He noted that crowd sizes at each location vary depending on public preferences, but emphasized that Alam Flora's teams remain fully prepared to manage waste collection efficiently, regardless of turnout. The company's ongoing dedication to environmental sustainability and urban cleanliness aligns with its mission to enhance community well-being and contribute to a greener future.
He further mentioned that the initiative reflects Malakoff's commitment to responsible operations, aligned with the Group's business pillars and the aspirations of Malakoff Environmental Solutions to focus on environmental management. This effort is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 11, which aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable, reinforcing Malakoff's overarching purpose of 'Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities'.
