ABM, CIDB Tech Successfully Trained Over 460,000 Construction Workers

Kuala lumpur: Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM) and Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Tech have successfully trained 463,679 individuals in the country since their founding in 2001 until July 2025. Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi highlighted this achievement, emphasizing the significant role ABM plays in nurturing skilled talent for the national construction industry.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the total number of trained individuals includes 164,350 youths and 299,329 construction personnel. This accomplishment underscores ABM’s substantial contribution to the development of the country’s construction workforce. In Sabah, the regional ABM has evolved from offering only four basic programs to becoming a comprehensive skill training center, training 196,000 Sabahans since it began operations.

During a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of the ABM campus project in Beringgis, officiated by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi expressed confidence that with modern facilities, relevant skill programs, and support from both state and federal governments, the Sabah region ABM will continue to develop as a world-class Construction Training and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) hub. This aligns with the government and CIDB’s aspirations to prepare a workforce that is not only technically skilled but also ready to face the challenges of the technological and digital era.

The construction of the new ABM campus project in Papar is notable for being the first project in Sabah to apply 500 Building Information Modelling (BIM) LOD 500, combined with the Industrialised Building System (IBS). The Level of Details 500 means that the new Sabah region ABM campus will have a digital model equivalent to a real building, which can be used throughout its entire lifespan, from design and construction to operations and facility maintenance.

Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi noted that this combination accelerates the construction process, reduces the risk of cost overruns, and ensures an accurate design. The RM130.6 million project is expected to be completed in 24 months.
