Vietnamese Fisherman Injured by Snapped Rope in Kuala Terengganu Waters

Kuala terengganu: A Vietnamese fisherman suffered a broken rib and facial injuries after being struck by a rope that snapped while fishing in the waters of Kuala Terengganu here today. Terengganu Maritime director Maritime Captain Hamiludin Che Awang said they received an emergency call from the local boatkeeper regarding the incident that occurred at about 10.30 am.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a patrol boat was dispatched at 11.45 am to the scene, located about 42 nautical miles east of Kuala Terengganu, for medical evacuation. “According to the boatkeeper, the 38-year-old Vietnamese national sustained serious injuries after being struck by the rope, which suddenly snapped while fishing. The team took about an hour to transfer the victim and reached the Terengganu Maritime Jetty at 1.45 pm,” he said in a statement.

He said the victim was sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ). He added that any reports or emergency incidents at sea can be reported directly to the 999 hotline or the Terengganu Maritime Operations Centre at 013-7464357, which operates 24 hours a day.
