KUALA NERUS: A total of 318 telecommunications transmitter stations across Malaysia that were affected by floods in November have resumed operations, according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. However, five transmitter stations remain non-operational.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the minister reported that Kelantan was the most affected region, with 264 telecommunications transmitters impacted by the floods. In Terengganu, 49 transmitters experienced disruptions, while nine in Pahang and one in Johor were also affected. Minister Fahmi shared these updates after concluding the final series of the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2024 campus tour with students in the Eastern Zone at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA).

In addition to the telecommunications towers, 97 National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) were affected by the floods. Of these, 88 have resumed operations while nine remain out of service.
Minister Fahmi also urged the public to verify the authenticity of information circulated on social media, particularly concerning flood-related news, by referring to reports from mainstream media outlets such as Bernama, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), TV3, and other daily newspapers. He emphasized the importance of waiting for confirmation from authorities and credible media sources before disseminating information.
Although no reports of false information regarding the floods have been received to date, the minister assured that the relevant authorities, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), are prepared to take appropriate action if necessary.
