Kuala Lumpur: The indoor court of the 2025 Lawn Bowls World Cup, scheduled to be held from November 4 to 8, will incorporate a greens concept similar to that planned for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysian Lawn Bowls Federation (MLBF) president Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz announced that the World Cup will take place indoors, necessitating several enhancements to the current bowling facilities to align with international standards. The tournament will feature a newly created portable greens court that will be adopted at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and approved by World Bowls. This setup involves placing a layer over the existing carpet and installing a removable portable mat on top.
Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz stated that the procurement process for these improvements is expected to commence in three to four months. This preparation is vital as most Malaysian bowlers have not previously trained on portable greens, with the exception of Nor Farah Ain Abdullah and Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple. He mentioned that two main bowling greens will be used for the event, including one existing court that will be entirely converted into a marquee structure to serve as an indoor venue.
The World Cup will see athletes compete for seven gold medals in men’s and women’s singles and pairs categories, as well as three special categories for para lawn bowlers. Twelve countries are set to participate in the World Cup, including Australia, England, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, Canada, India, Hong Kong, Ireland, the United States, Wales, and Malaysia as the host nation.
