Kuala lumpur: Since joining the national squad in January, young bowling sensation Qurratu’Ain Izdihar Mohd Pozi has faced multiple challenges – from adapting to intensive training and meeting podium targets set by her coaches to preparing for the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examinations. However, the Selangor-born athlete showed remarkable resilience by wrapping up her campaign at the Asian Under-18 Junior Bowling Championships in Doha with five gold medals – her best achievement since taking up the sport at age seven.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Qurratu’Ain expressed her gratitude and disbelief at securing five out of Malaysia’s seven gold medals in the competition. She credited her success to the consistent support from her coaches and family. Balancing her studies with tournaments has been a significant challenge, especially during the trial exam season. Following her recent victories, she aims to focus equally on academics and training for future competitions.
Qurratu’Ain revealed that she and her teammates underwent rigorous training sessions, practicing for two hours every morning and evening over two weeks to enhance their physical and mental endurance before heading to the tournament. She views her success as a shared achievement, acknowledging the unwavering support she received from her family and coaching team.
Looking ahead, Qurratu’Ain aspires to compete in the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, a dream for many athletes, though she has yet to be shortlisted. Her immediate focus is on the upcoming Asian Youth Championships at Sunway Megalanes, where she hopes to continue her winning streak from Doha.
Malaysia’s haul of seven golds, one silver, and five bronze medals at the Asian junior bowling championships in Doha marks the country’s best performance in the history of the tournament.
