Kuala lumpur: The Works Ministry (KKR) recorded RM94.17 million in damage caused by floods in 2024, mostly involving infrastructure such as roads. Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi stated that most of the infrastructure damaged by last year’s floods has been repaired, including in Terengganu (RM22.13 million), Kelantan (RM20.38 million), and Perak (RM33.4 million).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nanta emphasized the government’s commitment to assisting areas affected by the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) and recent floods. Efforts have been made to extend assistance and carry out necessary repairs. Nanta shared this information while inspecting the new Marang bridge upgrading project. He further mentioned that the ministry is preparing for the upcoming MTL expected at the end of this year by establishing a Disaster Operations Room to handle information and complaints related to flood-damaged infrastructure.
The Disaster Operations Room will function year-round, with increased activities during the MTL season to monitor all affected areas nationwide. Meanwhile, Terengganu Infrastructure, Utilities, and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Hanafiah Mat reported that nearly 90 percent of roads in the state damaged by last year’s floods have been repaired by the federal government through KKR. Only a slope road in Bukit Besi (in Dungun) remains to be repaired, with a tender for the repair work expected to be issued in two months.
Mat expressed gratitude to the federal government and KKR for their efforts in repairing the flood-damaged infrastructure and thanked Minister Nanta for personally inspecting the progress.
