WEC 2025 to Address ‘Caregiverpreneurship’ at Upcoming Conference

Nancy: The concept of ‘caregiverpreneurship’ will be a central topic at the Women Entrepreneurship Conference (WEC) 2025, scheduled for February 21 and 22, as announced by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri. The discussion will focus on increasing the involvement of professional caregivers in Malaysia, covering services for the elderly, children, and postnatal mothers.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nancy emphasized the need for more participation in the caregiver industry, highlighting its growing demand. She mentioned that the initiative aims to rebrand the perception of the caregiver profession to encourage more individuals to join the field. As part of her role in this year’s ASEAN chairmanship, Nancy will oversee the women sector, with ‘caregiverpreneurship’ being a significant area of focus.

Other notable topics for the conference include developments in the hospitality industry, advancements in e-branding and marketing, and discussions on the gig and circular economy. These sessions aim to provide a comprehensive view of the current entrepreneurial landscape and opportunities for women.

Meanwhile, Dr. Carolina Sandra Giang, president of the Women Empowerment and Sustainability Network Association (WESNA) Kuching, called on Sarawakians, particularly the Dayak community, to explore opportunities in the caregiver sector. She noted a lack of Dayak representation in the industry, especially in post-natal services, where the Malay community has a stronger presence. Dr. Giang encouraged Dayak women to expand their business ventures beyond traditional handicrafts.

The conference, which will be hosted at the Dayak Chamber Tower, has already attracted 153 participants from different industries. Organised by WESNA Kuching, WEC 2025 serves as a strategic platform to equip Dayak women with essential skills, resources, and networks. The aim is to empower them to thrive in business while ensuring they have equal opportunities in a competitive economy.
