Menglembu: Several male victims, aged between 45 and 55, from the Menglembu area today claimed that they had been deceived by two individuals offering a so-called fortune-changing service, causing them to suffer losses of more than RM140,000.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, one of the victims, 55-year-old Chan, said he had met a Thai woman and a local man in 2022 who offered a service to change one’s fate by donating a coffin to individuals who had passed away in Thailand. Chan explained that he was convinced by the suspects’ claims that purchasing a coffin would bring fortune, and subsequently handed over more than RM20,000 in cash in instalments. He discovered the scam in November of last year when he realized that the money was not delivered to the purported temple.
Another victim, who only wished to be known as Kam Yuen, 50, reported a loss of more than RM69,000 after being deceived by the same individuals. Kam Yuen mentioned that he was tricked into buying jewellery, which later turned out to be counterfeit when he attempted to verify its authenticity at a gold shop. Both victims have filed police reports regarding the incidents.
Meanwhile, Menglembu assemblyman Steven Chaw Kam Foon stated that his office received complaints from all the victims two weeks ago after they realized they had been scammed. He urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action against the perpetrators.
