Limbang: The body of a fisherman feared missing from a crocodile attack in Sungai Kampung Pendam here yesterday, was found on Day 2 by the search and rescue (SAR) team today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, a spokesman for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations centre reported that the body of Karim Osman, 58, was located intact at 2.28 pm, approximately one kilometre from the location where the SAR team commenced control operations using the surface search method.
“The second day of the SAR operation began as early as 9 am with a surface search carried out along the river within a radius of one to two kilometres, in the area believed to be the last point where the crocodile was seen (yesterday),” he stated in a release. He confirmed that the victim’s body was subsequently handed over to police for further action.
In the incident reported at about 3.13 pm the previous day, the victim was fishing alone when it is believed he was seized by the crocodile while on the riverbank near Kampung Pandam. According to witnesses, only the victim’s personal belongings and fishing gear were left at the scene.
The SAR team reportedly observed a crocodile briefly surface with an object resembling a human body in its jaws when the search was halted at twilight.
