Baling: The wife and daughter of the Perodua Alza driver in an accident that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students early yesterday morning have been placed in the same ward at Baling Hospital, here, to facilitate medical monitoring.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kedah Housing, Local Government, and Health Committee chairman Mansor Zakaria stated that all family members involved were in good condition, although two of them were still receiving treatment. He mentioned that the Perodua Alza driver, Mohd Lutfi Radzi, 37, has shown improvement and his son, Muhammad Ahsan Nafis, 2, was not injured. Despite being allowed to return home, they stayed in the ward to accompany Mohd Lutfi’s wife and eldest child who were still under treatment.
Mansor detailed that the driver’s wife, Nurul Ain Zakaria, 36, suffered a fractured left rib and was experiencing breathing difficulties, while their daughter, Nur Aisyah Nafishah Mohd Lutfi, 6, suffered a fractured right thigh. Both are being closely monitored in the hospital.
He also shared Mohd Lutfi’s account of the moments before the accident. Mohd Lutfi mentioned that their car was in front of the bus and was hit from behind, causing it to spin several times before falling into a ditch on the left side of the road. Mansor added that the right side of the road was a ravine and Mohd Lutfi assumed that the bus was moving fast.
Media reports earlier indicated that the bus carrying the UPSI students was traveling from Jertih, Terengganu to Tanjung Malim, Perak, when it skidded and collided with the Perodua Alza driven by Mohd Lutfi and his family, in an incident that occurred in Gerik, Perak, early yesterday morning.
