Kuala lumpur: National men’s singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong successfully underwent surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury at a hospital in Doha, Qatar, yesterday. Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh said the 25-year-old shuttler will now spend four weeks undergoing the rehabilitation process at the Aspetar Hospital in Doha, which is a globally renowned orthopaedic and sports medicine facility.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kenny Goh mentioned that everything concerning the surgery went smoothly and expressed hope that Tze Yong would diligently complete his rehabilitation. The National Sports Institute had recommended the Aspetar Hospital for both the surgery and rehabilitation, a facility known for treating world-class athletes like Kylian Mbapp©, Neymar, and Erling Haaland.
BAM confirmed that Tze Yong sustained an ACL injury following an MRI scan that showed a tear in his right knee. The Johor-born shuttler suffered this injury during a match against Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka Long at the Malaysia Masters 2025 in May, which forced him to retire mid-game.
Meanwhile, BAM expressed readiness to assist professional shuttler Lee Zii Jia, who has recently shared mysterious sketches on social media. Kenny stated that BAM is always prepared to offer support if needed. Earlier, the National Sports Council (NSC) assured that Zii Jia is fine, despite his intriguing social media activity.
NSC director-general Jefri Ngadirin noted that both the council and Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh had reached out to Zii Jia’s team to understand his recent behavior. The shuttler’s posts have sparked speculation about potential personal or mental health issues, drawing significant attention online.
