Trump Imposes 19% Tariff on Indonesian Goods, Secures Market Access for U.S. Exports

Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Indonesia will pay a 19 percent tariff on all goods exported to the United States, while US exports to Indonesia are to be free of tariff- and non-tariff barriers.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Trump stated on Truth Social that he “finalised an important Deal with the Republic of Indonesia after speaking with President Prabowo Subianto. This landmark Deal opens up Indonesia’s ENTIRE MARKET to the United States for the first time in History.”

As part of this significant agreement, Indonesia has committed to purchasing US$15 billion in energy and US$4.5 billion in agricultural products from the U.S. market, in addition to 50 Boeing jets. These commitments are seen as a boost to various sectors of the U.S. economy.

Trump emphasized the opportunities this deal presents for American agricultural and fisheries industries by stating, “For the first time ever, our Ranchers, Farmers, and Fishermen will have Complete and Total Access to the Indonesian Market of over 280 million people.”

Before his departure for Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, Trump informed reporters at the White House about Indonesia’s strong position in copper, as well as its wealth in rare earths and other materials, indicating the strategic significance of the deal.

Additionally, Trump hinted at future trade agreements, mentioning that discussions with India are progressing similarly, which could further expand U.S. market access in Asia.
