There Should Be No Betrayal In Political Cooperation, Says Anwar

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that there must be no elements of betrayal by any party in political cooperation in the country. Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, said strong cooperation is essential, particularly as the nation faces economic challenges that require all parties to work together.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized the importance of trust within political alliances while officiating the 10th Annual General Meeting of Koperasi Profesional Putrajaya Berhad (KOPROJAYA). The event was attended by notable figures, including Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, National Cooperative Movement of Malaysia (ANGKASA) president Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah, and KOPROJAYA chairman Saiful Azhar Shaharun.

Anwar's remarks were in response to a statement by UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who claimed that the issue of betrayal should not arise after the end of an administration's term. Ahmad Zahid's comments came amid accusations from several PH leaders who labeled UMNO as a 'traitor' following the announcement of the State Election in Negeri Sembilan.

The Prime Minister pointed out that there were indications of betrayal in Negeri Sembilan, despite the political stability and economic conditions. He suggested that there were efforts aimed at undermining the cooperation in the state. Anwar also mentioned that if betrayal can be avoided, parties should focus on strengthening their understanding of the existing political cooperation.

Anwar reaffirmed that the main focus of the MADANI Government is to generate national economic growth and address issues affecting the populace. He highlighted that the government's priorities lie in tackling economic challenges rather than being preoccupied with upcoming election matters.

The Election Commission (EC) has set polling day for the Johor polls on July 11, with the Negeri Sembilan election scheduled for August 1.
