Kuala lumpur: More than 800 Indian students have been guided through the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) under the Tatchanai Teacher Programme since its launch seven years ago. Senior Private Secretary to the Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Anbumani Balan, stated that over 250 of these students later secured places in public universities.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the mentoring initiative is supported by Deputy Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan and run by the Johor Self-Help Association and Social I-Tenaga Association. The program is conducted online to assist Indian students preparing for STPM, and this year, nearly RM200,000 in education incentives have been distributed through collaboration with Yayasan Bank Rakyat and agencies under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), benefiting more than 300 outstanding students.
Anbumani was speaking after officiating the ‘Sathanayalar Santippu’ ceremony at the Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple, which celebrated over 100 high-achieving Indian STPM students. The event was jointly organised by the two associations and the temple.
Johor Self-Help Association chairman Krishnasamy Muniandy remarked that the programme’s success highlights the value of community-led initiatives and expressed hope that it could be expanded nationwide.
