Langkawi: The Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) will keep its services at peak performance throughout the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA’25). Chief executive officer Khalid Mohamed stated that 380 cleaners, supervised by 19 enforcement officers, will be stationed island-wide, supported by the latest cleaning technology.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, high-tech machines, such as Glutton vacuum units and road sweepers, have been deployed at public hotspots and along major routes for more intensive street cleaning. Khalid Mohamed mentioned that 80 staff members have been assigned to a litter-picking initiative targeting road shoulders on key thoroughfares.
The agency is also intensifying enforcement efforts to close down illegal waste hotspots and has launched a speak-up campaign encouraging the public to report littering. Public awareness campaigns are being conducted through video screenings at high-traffic locations to emphasize the importance of proper solid waste management.
In an effort to change public behavior towards waste separation, user-friendly and informative bins have been strategically placed in key areas. Khalid Mohamed noted that this initiative is yielding promising results, as inspections have revealed that some waste is already being sorted, simplifying the cleaning process.
Additionally, SWCorp is showcasing sculptures made by locals from recycled materials at the Kuah Jetty Terminal’s waiting area. Similar displays have been set up at the airport, with plans to expand this initiative in the future.
