Kota tinggi: The Sungai Pemandi Flood Mitigation Project (RTB) in Kota Tinggi is on track for completion by April 26 next year, with expectations to benefit approximately 2,000 residents in Taman Aman and Taman Mawai. The project, which spans 2.7 kilometers along Sungai Pemandi, has reached 58 percent progress, according to State Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communication Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative is one of 11 high-impact projects supervised by a special committee co-led by the secretary-general of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), Datuk Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli. A significant challenge in the initiative is the acquisition of 17 land lots essential for these flood mitigation efforts.
The RM42 million project commenced in July 2023 and encompasses the construction of a flood wall, sandfill mattress, gabion, bridge replacement, and a pump system. These measures are part of RTB’s broader strategy to mitigate flood risks in vulnerable locations through precise flood control efforts.
Currently, 10 major RTB projects are in progress across various districts in Johor, such as Segamat, Tangkak, Batu Pahat, and Kota Tinggi. Notable projects include the RM1.18 billion Batu Pahat RTB and the RM2.24 billion Sungai Johor RTB, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing flood-related challenges strategically.
