Kuala lumpur: The Selangor Council of the Royal Court has highlighted that Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, the Sultan of Selangor, prioritizes effective action in addressing the concerns of the people, aligning with his responsibilities as Head of State.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the council stated that any advice or reminders offered by Sultan Sharafuddin serve as vital guidance to ensure responsible state governance. The council emphasized that under a Constitutional Monarchy, the Sultan aims not to be a mere ceremonial figure but acts as a 'check and balance' to safeguard the interests of the people. With 25 years as Sultan and 33 years as Raja Muda of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin fully comprehends his role within the legal framework of the Constitutional Monarchy.
The council issued this statement to counter negative opinions from some political figures who claimed that the Sultan's recent address at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly overstepped his constitutional role. They clarified that the address, made on April 20, was consistent with the Sultan's role in a Constitutional Monarchy, ensuring state government actions align with the Federal Constitution and the Selangor Constitution of 1959, focusing on public welfare.
The council further explained that the Menteri Besar is obliged to consult with the Sultan on state matters affecting public welfare, allowing the Sultan to provide informed advice. This consultation ensures that the Sultan's guidance is rooted in the people's best interests, free from political bias.
Additionally, the Sultan frequently receives complaints regarding issues such as floods, waste management, and infrastructure, which are submitted with detailed information from affected individuals. These complaints highlight the pressing needs of the residents, prompting the Sultan to advise the state government on these matters.
