Ulu kinta: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, officially inaugurated the Sultan Nazrin Shah 69 Commando Camp in Ulu Kinta today, marking a significant development for Malaysia's security infrastructure. The ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, and the Raja DiHilir of Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution emphasized that the establishment of the camp underscores the MADANI Government's dedication to bolstering the nation's security forces in the face of evolving challenges. He stated that the camp represents the government's commitment to equipping security personnel with superior facilities, infrastructure, and training opportunities to maintain national peace and sovereignty.
Saifuddin highlighted Malaysia's 12th place ranking out of 163 countries in the latest Global Peace Index as a testament to the effectiveness of the nation's security forces. He attributed part of this success to the 69 Commando unit, established in 1969, noting its pivotal role in key operations such as combating the communist insurgency, the Al-Maunah incident in 2000, Ops Daulat in Lahad Datu, Sabah, in 2013, and the MH17 tragedy in 2014.
The Home Minister lauded the 69 Commando for its contributions to counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, and high-risk security operations, and reiterated the government's recognition of the unit's sacrifices by developing the Sultan Nazrin Shah Camp as its new main base.
Saifuddin noted that the camp, constructed at a cost exceeding RM206 million on a 338-hectare site, was designed with operational needs in mind. It will be officially handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police in 2024, serving as a comprehensive complex for operations, training, and administration.
He described the Sultan Nazrin Shah Camp as a strategic national investment aimed at enhancing the 69 Commando's capabilities for future generations. The camp symbolizes the nation's gratitude towards the unit's service and will foster a new generation of personnel dedicated to maintaining Malaysia's peace and sovereignty.
Saifuddin expressed confidence that the camp will continue to embody the 69 Commando's excellence, courage, and dedication to national security.
