Sukma: Johor shattered a 10-year-old Malaysia Games (SUKMA) men's 4x100 metres (m) record en route to clinching the gold medal at the Selangor 2026 edition here, today. The quartet of Mohamad Haziq Ilmani Osman, Muhamad Airiel Iskandar Rusli, Adam Harith Hairulaydel and Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee produced a run of 39.46 seconds (s) in the final at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Sports Centre.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, their effort eclipsed the previous Games record of 39.89s set by Melaka's Asnawi Hashim, Badrul Hisyam Abdul Manap, Muhammad Azam Masri and Khairul Hafiz Jantan at the 2016 edition. Sabah also dipped under the previous Games record but had to settle for silver after clocking 39.88s, while hosts Selangor took bronze in 40.29s.
Danish Iftikhar expressed gratitude for the achievement, saying, "We trust each other as one team, as Team Johor and Alhamdulillah we succeeded in setting a new Games record and claim the gold for Johor. We did not expect but grateful for the win." This victory also marked Danish Iftikhar's second personal gold medal of the Games after winning the men's 100m title.
For Muhamad Airiel, the triumph helped ease the disappointment of missing out on the 100m podium after finishing fourth. "The feeling is truly one of gratitude and happiness because yesterday I had tried to prove to everyone that I could do it, Alhamdulillah. I told the whole team, I prayed that I could make up for it in the 4x100m, and I feel so happy to have set a new record together with my teammates," he shared.
Johor's success came after their failure to finish the event in the 2024 edition, where Selangor claimed gold, followed by Sabah with silver and Pahang with bronze.
