SSPA Pension Adjustments: Veterans Can Contact JHEV For Enquiries

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans who have problems calculating the implementation of the Civil Service Remuneration System can contact the MAF Veteran Affairs Department (JHEV) for information. Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari stated that the JHEV has established a dedicated war room to assist veterans in understanding the calculations of their new pension rates.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Adly emphasized that before the pension revisions were implemented, the ministry had communicated the formula and methodology used to determine the new pension rates to the veterans involved. He assured veterans that JHEV is open to addressing any inquiries regarding income or calculation methods, as mentioned during a press conference at a Hi-Tea Ceremony with the Minister of Defence.

In November, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin announced an eight per cent first phase pension adjustment for veterans who retired before January 2013. This adjustment, based on their final salary in 2012, is set to be received in December.

During the ceremony, 38 veterans from the Central Zone, representing a total of 292 veterans who sustained injuries during high-risk operations and training, were honored. These veterans received a one-off Disability Award ranging from RM6,000 to RM72,000, depending on the severity of their injuries.

Commenting on veterans with permanent disabilities from operations or high-risk training, Adly noted that the disability pension (PHU) payment would see a 10 per cent increase starting this month. Additionally, the education allowance for children of PHU recipients will rise significantly, from RM200 to a range of RM685 to RM1,600, up to RM5,400 annually. The constant-attendance allowance (ELS) will also increase from RM440 to RM1,500 per month.

According to him, these new rates are a gesture of appreciation for the dedicated services, contributions, and sacrifices made by MAF veterans for the country.
