GUA MUSANG: The six-metre-deep sinkhole that appeared along Jalan Lojing-Gua Musang, near Kampung Jek Jok, Pos Brooke here, is being repaired. Gua Musang district police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo stated that although repairs are underway, the route has not been opened to vehicle use, with only one lane available for road users traveling from Lojing and Cameron Highlands. Several warning signs have been placed to alert road users about the ongoing repairs.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kampung Jek Jok village head Jubir Sekmo suggested that the sinkhole incident was likely caused by continuous rain over the past three days, leading to a significant amount of water flowing underground. The incident was discovered at about 8 am the day before yesterday. Local residents responded by placing barriers on the road to warn users of the hazardous situation along Jalan Lojing-Gua Musang.
Jubir Sekmo expressed concerns over the potential risk of more areas being affected by sinkholes, which could result in injuries
or loss of life. He further indicated that the sinkhole might also be a consequence of land clearing and deforestation aimed at creating vegetable farms. The heavy rainwater flowing underground is believed to have exacerbated the situation, leading to the formation of the sinkhole.
