Gua musang: A single mother in her 50s from Kuala Lumpur drowned after she is believed to have slipped into Sungai Betis while hiking in Pos Balar, Gua Musang. Gua Musang Police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo reported that the woman was part of a group of 11 hikers who embarked on their expedition on May 1.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the hiking expedition covered the areas of Gunung Gerah, Gunung Bilah, and Gunung Biyed. The incident occurred on May 2 at approximately 7.30 pm while the group was navigating the Sungai Betis area in the dark. It is believed the victim slipped and fell into the river, leading to her tragic drowning.
The group initiated an immediate search effort that night, but they were unable to locate the victim. On May 3, around 8 am, the victim was discovered about 300 metres from the site of the incident, unconscious and presumed to have died. Official information regarding the incident was received by the police the same day at 3.21 pm.
The Gua Musang Police, with assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department, retrieved the victim's body. Rescuers faced challenging conditions, traveling by four-wheel-drive vehicles for about four hours and then proceeding nearly 10 hours on foot to reach the remote location.
The case has been classified as a sudden death, and the woman's body was transported to Gua Musang Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
