Shah Alam Sports Complex Project Value Remains At RM2.94 Bln

Shah alam: The Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) development is proceeding as planned with the committed value remaining at RM2.94 billion despite concerns over potential cost increase following the global supply crisis. Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI) chief executive officer Datuk Saipolyazan M Yusop stated that there has not been any official request from the contractor for a price review or adjustment, thus keeping the project's committed value unchanged.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, there are rumors of possible cost increases, but no official request has been made, and the original contract sum is being maintained. Contracts of this nature often involve various elements, and increased diesel prices can lead to rises in construction material costs, affecting the supply chain. Saipolyazan addressed these concerns while speaking to reporters at the launch of the Public Works Department (JKR) headquarters complex in Section 17, Shah Alam, during the Gagasan Rumpun Selangor 2026 program.

Saipolyazan mentioned that MBI is keeping a close watch on current global economic conditions, including tensions in West Asia, but remains committed to the project's target completion in May 2029. He emphasized the importance of sticking to the construction schedule from 2026 to May 2029, hoping that events in the Middle East will not affect progress. Once the definitive project construction contract is signed, which includes design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance components, further works will begin at an accelerated pace to adhere to the timeline.

Regarding site progress, work is reportedly on schedule, though physical changes to the main structure are not yet visible to the public. The KSSA redevelopment project has achieved an initial progress of 9.16 percent, focusing on site preparation tasks such as hoarding installation and cut and fill activities. In May of the previous year, Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd's indirect subsidiary, Lembaran Prospek Sdn Bhd, received a letter of acceptance from MBI for the construction and completion of KSSA valued at RM2.94 billion. The project centers around a 45,000-capacity stadium with a retractable pitch, integrating community, commerce, and infrastructure across a 310,000 square meter green flora sanctuary.
