Kuala lumpur: National junior men's singles head coach Datuk Tey Seu Bock has been confirmed to return to the senior men's singles camp, as announced by Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Performance Committee chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei. A detailed announcement on the new coaching structure is expected from BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh soon.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the proposal for an experienced coach to rejoin the senior men's singles rank was suggested by national singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen and subsequently approved by Chong Wei. "Coach Seu Bock, people can see that in the 2026 Malaysia Open tournament, he is sitting at the back of the court. I think we cannot hide this from the media, and I can confirm that he will be promoted to senior," Chong Wei stated on the last day of the tournament. He added that the decision was made with Jonassen's support, aiming for Seu Bock to assist the national team alongside other coaches.
Chong Wei emphasized Seu Bock's extensive experience, noting that he was instrumental in guiding him to become a world champion and enhancing the performance of the junior team. The 52-year-old coach played a pivotal role in Chong Wei's success, helping him secure three silver medals at the Olympic Games in 2008, 2012, and 2016.
Seu Bock, who has been with BAM since 2002, led the junior men's singles team in October 2024 and was formerly an assistant to Datuk Misbun Sidek before coaching Chong Wei in 2011. The BAM is also set to announce the addition of six new coaches, focusing primarily on local talent, although there will be some international appointments. This restructuring aims to integrate promising young players aged 16 to 17 into the senior ranks for both singles and doubles disciplines.
