Selangor Women’s Convention 2025 to Empower Women in State’s Development

Shah Alam: The Selangor Women’s Convention 2025, scheduled for June 28 at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC), is set to be a significant platform aimed at empowering women and enhancing their role in the socio-economic development of the state.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Women Empowerment and Welfare Committee chairman, Anfaal Saari, emphasized that the program, organized by the Selangor Women and Family Development Standing Committee through Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS), aims to gather more than 1,000 participants. These participants will include representatives from government agencies, academia, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), industry, and women from various sectors.

“This convention is an integral part of the Selangor Women’s Policy 2024-2026 and serves as a vital platform to exhibit policies and best practices in women’s workforce participation, community entrepreneurship, and digital empowerment,” Anfaal stated during the launch of the WBS Volunteers and Khairat Darul Ehsan (KDE).

Themed ‘Meneroka Kekuatan, Mencipta Kejayaan’, the convention will feature three main components: Her Career Convention, Hasil Suri Expo, and Digital Entrepreneur Pitching. Anfaal elaborated that the Her Career Convention will focus on women’s career development through technical education and vocational training, particularly in STEM fields and the care economy, with participation from 30 companies.

The Hasil Suri Expo will see participation from 56 WBS Centres across Selangor, showcasing community products, while the pitching session will involve 41 young female entrepreneurs competing for a Digital Entrepreneur grant by presenting innovative digital ideas.

Anfaal also addressed the state’s goal to boost women’s workforce participation to 75 per cent by 2030, up from the current 69.9 per cent. Strategies to achieve this include collaboration with TalentCorp and the Career Comeback programme. The state has also introduced a flexible work policy in government-linked companies like MBI Corporation, which has received positive feedback for supporting women with caregiving responsibilities.

Additionally, the state is preparing for the Care Summit programme in October and expanding the Usahanita Digital initiative, which provides training and grants to female entrepreneurs in SMEs to enhance digital business processes. “Through this programme, we support B40 and M40 women entrepreneurs registered with SSM to expand their businesses digitally,” Anfaal explained.

At the same event, Anfaal announced the official launch of the KDE initiative, a continuation of the Mesra Selangor programme, offering funeral assistance of up to RM1,000 to the next of kin of the deceased. Over 2,000 visitors attended, including recipients of a special RM2,000 state grant for caregiving courses.

Anfaal expressed hope that the Selangor Women’s Convention 2025 will act as a catalyst for creating a holistic ecosystem for women’s empowerment, providing career and entrepreneurial opportunities to women not yet formally engaged in the workforce. “Through this platform, women can hone their potential and build strategic networks with various parties,” she concluded.
