Shah alam: The Selangor government has announced its ambitious plan to provide approximately 4,000 homes under the SMART Rental Scheme by 2028, as revealed by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. Presently, about 1,000 houses are available for the scheme’s implementation, with more expected through the ‘Rumah Harapan’ and ‘Rumah Idaman’ projects.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state government will acquire additional houses from the completion of these projects, including those in Lembah Subang. The Ministry of Housing and Local Government is in the final stages of negotiations to address outstanding issues. In Lembah Subang alone, between 1,000 and 2,000 additional units are anticipated for the SMART Rental initiative.
During a ceremony to present the Ampar Tenang People’s Housing Project offer letters, Amirudin emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding affordable housing access, particularly for low- and middle-income groups in Selangor. He acknowledged the challenges faced by those unable to purchase homes and highlighted the SMART Rental scheme as a viable alternative.
The SMART Rental scheme is designed to assist eligible low- and middle-income earners by offering rental opportunities, with 30 percent of the total rent paid contributing towards the deposit for purchasing Rumah Selangorku.
