Selangor Rail Project to Boost Aviation and Logistics Industry: Amirudin

Selangor: The proposed Selangor Rail project is set to become the crucial link that will unlock the full potential of the newly launched Selangor Aero Park (SAP), transforming the state into a fully integrated aviation and logistics powerhouse, stated Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. He emphasized the strategic importance of this rail connection in integrating major transportation hubs within the region.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the rail project was initially proposed to the Transport Ministry a few months ago and aims to connect key locations including Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Subang Airport, Port Klang, and the upcoming port in Pulau Carey. Amirudin highlighted the necessity of addressing this missing link to connect industry, people, and major transportation infrastructure in Selangor and the Klang Valley.

Amirudin assured that while the Selangor state government acknowledges the financial complexities involved, they are committed to providing full intellectual and technical support to realize this vision with the Federal Cabinet’s approval. He made these remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony of the SAP.

In February, Ng Sze Han, Selangor’s State Investment, Trade, and Mobility Committee chairman, announced that the construction of the Selangor Rail Line would be executed in phases over a span of up to 10 years. He mentioned that the feasibility study was in its final phase, identifying a 200-kilometre alignment with four proposed spur lines: Westport, Klang, Putra Heights, and Universiti Selangor (Unisel) Bestari Jaya.

Amirudin also spoke about the significance of the 242.811 hectares development of SAP, marking it as a strategic starting point to position Selangor and Malaysia as a regional aerospace powerhouse. He pointed out that 68 percent of Malaysia’s aerospace economy is already based in Selangor, making the SAP a pivotal development.

Amirudin expressed confidence that the SAP would attract international aerospace giants and critical supply chain industries, enhancing Selangor’s global standing. He envisioned that the SAP would drive interest from global giants like Airbus and Boeing to relocate to Selangor.

Furthermore, Amirudin highlighted another key objective of the SAP: to elevate local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the value chain and increase Malaysia’s share in high-value aerospace activities. He believes the SAP will encourage local SMEs to gain global certification, enabling them to compete with regional powerhouses.

He emphasized the potential for growth into original equipment manufacturers, principal aircraft systems producers, and firms making sub-assemblies and providing parts and raw materials.
