Selangor Govt-SPAN Meet Over Water Regulatory Issues

Selangor: The Selangor government today held an engagement session with the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) to discuss water regulatory issues in the state. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the engagement session, which was jointly attended by Pengurusan Air Selangor (Air Selangor), was held in conjunction with the visit of SPAN chairman Datuk Ir. Abdul Kadir Mohd Din to his office today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the discussions, which took place before the State Legislative Assembly session began, focused on efforts to improve water quality and address the supply crisis in Selangor. ‘This is all to ensure more efficient and quality services to the people through the application of technology in water management,’ Amirudin said in a Facebook post.

Amirudin further explained that he was also provided with an explanation on operational and regulatory aspects that needed improvement. The meeting with SPAN and Air Selangor also facilitated cooperation in innovation, training, consumer education, as well as coordination with national agendas such as AIR 2040, focusing on energy efficiency, the green agenda, and capacity development.

He expressed hope that this strategic collaboration would positively impact the water supply system in Selangor, ensuring the well-being of the people and future sustainability. Yesterday, SPAN announced in a statement that it had received applications from water service operators in ten states to review their respective water supply tariffs.

According to SPAN, as of June 30, the applications received were from operators in Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, and Selangor. The commission, however, informed that all the applications are still being reviewed and have not been finalised.
