Kuala lumpur: The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and the Financial Services Authority (FSA) of Oman today signed a Joint Programme for Capital Market Development Cooperation to advance a strategic partnership between the two authorities.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the SC stated in a press release that the two-year collaboration will focus on joint capacity building initiatives, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of Malaysia and Oman as attractive investment destinations. The key areas of cooperation include the joint promotion of Malaysian and Omani investment opportunities, exploring a mutual recognition agreement to support cross or dual listings, staff exchange and training programmes, as well as knowledge sharing on research, policies, and market development strategies.
SC chairman Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi remarked that the joint programme marked another SC milestone engagement with its counterparts in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), particularly the Oman FSA. He expressed that through this collaboration, the aim is to enhance knowledge exchange, promote each market’s unique investment propositions, and ultimately drive sustainable growth across both conventional and Islamic capital markets. “Together, we are building a partnership that benefits our markets, investors, and economies,” he said.
Oman FSA executive president Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al Salmi emphasized that their partnership with the SC is a bridge between the ASEAN and GCC capital markets. He noted that with the signing of their joint cooperation programme, they are expanding collaboration in areas such as capacity building, sustainable finance, and market innovation. This expansion lays the groundwork for resilient, trusted, and globally connected financial markets that will benefit both countries and the wider region.
The SC also conducted engagements with key stakeholders in Oman this week to showcase Malaysia as an attractive destination for economic collaboration and cross-border investment opportunities. During meetings with GCC and Omani investors, Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Fad’l Mohamed highlighted Malaysia’s capital market strengths and opportunities. Discussions also focused on the role of Islamic finance in boosting cross-border funding and opening prospects in wealth management and family offices.
