Kuching: Water supply across Sarawak remains stable and sufficient despite the current dry spell, State Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said today. He stated that both the ministry and the State Disaster Management Committee are on standby to monitor water sources and address any potential disruptions, urging the public to use water prudently to prevent wastage and ensure continuous supply.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the situation is under control, and water treatment plants are still capable of meeting demand. However, Julaihi warned that leaks caused by third parties or ageing pipes could affect supply. He emphasized the importance of vigilance in maintaining the water infrastructure and noted that the relevant agencies have been instructed to remain prepared for any eventuality.
Julaihi was speaking to reporters after attending the Petronas Empowering Knowledge MLNG Bestari Outreach programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sebuyau. During the event, he appreciated Petronas, through its subsidiary Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG), for their contribution of RM800,000 to improve facilities at SMK Sebuyau. The funding will be used to expand hostel capacity to accommodate over 250 students annually, repair classrooms, and provide basic equipment such as desks, beds, smart TVs, and air-conditioners for over 1,000 students.
He further mentioned that the school, which is currently in a dilapidated condition, requires a full replacement. A tender has already been awarded to build a new campus in Bandar Baru Sebuyau, signaling a positive development for the educational infrastructure in the region.
