Butterworth: The Malaysia Day celebrations serve as a crucial reminder for Malaysians to respect and comprehend the formation of the country, which is rooted in the spirit of federation, stated Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, in his video broadcast during the 2025 Malaysia Day celebrations at PICCAArena Butterworth, Abang Johari stressed that the country’s true strength comes from the unity of its people across various regions forming the Federation of Malaysia. He emphasized that the celebration reminds citizens of the alliance and agreements that provide a foundation for the country’s development.
Abang Johari urged Malaysians to uphold the spirit of Malaysia Day and defend the foundations that have united the country since 1963. He encouraged citizens to work collaboratively to ensure Malaysia remains a progressive, prosperous, inclusive, and respected nation globally.
He also highlighted Malaysia’s significant international role as ASEAN Chair this year under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership. This position has demonstrated Malaysia’s ability to strengthen regional unity and foster close relationships among ASEAN member countries.
Discussing Sarawak’s progress, Abang Johari noted that the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) has elevated the state to fourth position among states achieving high-income status. He expressed gratitude to the Penang government for hosting the celebrations this year and appreciated the Federal Government’s initiative to rotate Malaysia Day celebrations across different states.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Prime Minister Anwar, Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, and Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya.
