Kuching: District and divisional-level Disaster Management Committees (JPBN) in Sarawak have been instructed to remain on alert in response to the current hot and dry weather conditions. Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the state JPBN chairman, emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring, as dry and hot weather increases the risk of fires and haze.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) will be utilizing drone technology to monitor areas where smoke may be detected. Additionally, resident offices have been requested to keep a close watch on the ongoing situation. Uggah shared these updates with reporters after launching the Borneo International Integrity Summit 2025.
Meanwhile, Uggah has received reports indicating that several villages in the state are currently experiencing water shortages. The Sarawak Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) and the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) have been tasked with identifying solutions to address this issue.
Further steps include convening a meeting in the coming days to closely monitor the situation, particularly the water shortage, which Uggah described as a serious issue. He stressed the necessity of ensuring that the machinery and resources are prepared to handle such situations effectively on the ground.
