Sarawak Eyes Aerospace Hub Status with Skilled Workforce Initiative.

KUCHING: Sarawak needs a high-quality workforce to support its mission to become Malaysia’s hub for the aerospace industry. Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasized the necessity for a technologically proficient workforce to advance the state’s ambitions in the aerospace sector.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tan Sri Abang Johari highlighted the importance of technological expertise in his speech during SMD Semiconductor’s Annual Dinner. He stated, “When we talk about satellites, we must know how to make rockets, because you need rockets to go to orbit. Then, the satellite must be equipped with chips that can read what’s on the ground and store data.” He further explained that Sarawak has requested i-CATS University College to establish an aerospace faculty and collaborate with international experts to impart this new technology to the local population. “It is a very ambitious plan, but we have to start somewhere,” he added.

On July 29, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datu
k Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz reportedly acknowledged the Federal government’s proposal for Sarawak to become Malaysia’s aerospace industry hub. Tengku Zafrul noted the state’s significant potential in the sector, particularly in its commitment to developing a skilled workforce to meet industry demands.
