Samaiden Signs Long-Term Lease For Solar Project In Kelantan

Pasir Mas: Samaiden Group Bhd’s (Samaiden) wholly-owned unit, Samaiden Legasi Timur Sdn Bhd (SLTSB), has signed a long-term lease agreement with Perbadanan Kemajuan Iktisad Negeri Kelantan (PKINK) for the development of a large-scale solar photovoltaic (LSS) power plant under Malaysia’s LSS5 programme. The renewable energy company stated that the lease encompasses approximately 400 acres (162 hectares) of land in Pasir Mas, Kelantan.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the land will be used to build and operate a solar energy facility with a maximum export capacity of 99.99 megawatts of alternating current (MWac). This facility will supply clean electricity to Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The lease spans 23 years, including a two-year construction phase, and will start once several conditions are met, such as the successful award of the LSS5 project by the Energy Commission and execution of the PPA with TNB.

Samaiden group managing director, Datuk Ir Chow Pui Hee, commented that the lease with PKINK is a significant step forward in advancing its LSS5 solar project. It aligns with Malaysia’s goals to achieve 70 percent renewable energy capacity by 2050 and reduce carbon intensity by 45 percent by 2030. He noted the strategic benefits of the site for solar development and expressed gratitude for the support from the Kelantan state government in facilitating this project.

The lease agreement is anticipated to have positive effects on the local economy by creating job opportunities and fostering knowledge exchange within the renewable energy sector. Samaiden emphasized its commitment to collaborating with PKINK to help shape a greener future. This initiative is expected to contribute to regional development and support national clean energy objectives outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap.
