Kuala lumpur: A salesman pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a fraud charge involving the sale and purchase of gloves totalling RM5.1 million, five years ago.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, P. Dinesh, 36, along with the director of Aspen Broadway Sdn Bhd, was accused of deceiving an individual into believing that 150,000 boxes of Hartalega brand Coats Nitrile Examination gloves were in stock at Hartalega Sdn Bhd’s warehouse.
The victim, under the impression that the gloves were readily available, transferred RM5.1 million through a law firm to a bank account associated with another law firm appointed by Aspen Broadway as the company’s lawyer. The alleged offence took place at a condominium in Jalan Tun Ismail near here on November 9, 2020. The charge falls under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which could result in a maximum prison sentence of 10 years or whipping and a fine, upon conviction.
Judge Azrul Darus granted Dinesh bail set at RM100,000 with one surety. Dinesh is required to surrender his passport to the court and report to a nearby police station once a month. The court set the next mention date for July 28.
Deputy public prosecutor Chow Siang Kong prosecuted the case, while lawyer Mohd Akmal Mohd Taufik represented Dinesh. Last February 10, Aspen Broadway Sdn Bhd’s company director, R. Gopinatan Pillai, faced one count of fraud and seven counts of money laundering related to the glove sale and purchase.
