Sabah Chief Minister Urges Respect for Legal Process in Mining Licence Corruption Case

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has urged all parties to respect the legal process in the ongoing corruption case involving mineral mining licences, which reportedly implicates some state assemblymen. He emphasized the state government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and transparent investigation and assured continued support for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in handling the case.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hajiji stated, “We are committed to upholding the rule of law and promoting integrity within the government and public service,” during a media briefing after visiting fire victims at Dewan Seri Putatan. Earlier, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki announced that two Sabah assemblymen and another individual are expected to be charged in court this month in connection with the case.

Hajiji stressed that the matter would not affect the state government’s administration. He remarked, “Let the courts decide whether they are guilty or not. They also have the right to defend themselves and clear their names,” reinforcing the importance of letting the legal system take its course.
