RM480,000 Windfall for Malaysian Wushu Champions After World Championship Success

Kuala lumpur: Six national wushu exponents are set to earn a total windfall of RM480,000 after their outstanding achievements in the 2025 World Wushu Championships in Brazil recently. Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced the reward for the wushu squad, who secured five golds, one silver, and two bronzes, under the National Sports Incentives Scheme (SHAKAM). This decision considers that the World Wushu Championships occur once every two years.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hannah Yeoh highlighted the difference between the wushu championships and events like the Badminton World Championships, which are held annually. The wushu exponents, Si Shin Peng, Tan Cheong Min, Lee Jia Rong, Pang Pui Yee, Bryan Ti Kai Jie, and Clement Ting Su Wei, delivered an impressive performance in Brasilia. Shin Peng, who secured golds in the men’s Qiangshu and Jianshu events, along with a team bronze in Duilian, will receive the highest amount of RM166,666.66. Cheong Min, who excelled in the women’s Nangun event, a team gold in Duilian, and a silver in the individual Nandao, will pocket RM146,666.66.

Pui Yee will receive RM26,666.66 for her contribution to the women’s team Duilian event, while Bryan and Clement will each receive RM6,666.66 for their bronze medal in the team Duilian event.

Meanwhile, Hannah Yeoh also mentioned that mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei received RM40,000 each after their maiden World Badminton Championships triumph in Paris. Additionally, women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, who finished as runners-up at the Paris world meet, took home RM20,000 each.
