Kuala perlis: The government has approved RM150,000 to upgrade fishing jetty facilities in Kampung Kurung Tengar, Kuala Perlis, to improve safety and convenience for the local fishing community. Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) director-general Abdul Salim Tajudin said RM50,000 had been used to construct the Kurung Tengar boat mooring jetty, while a further RM100,000 was allocated to repair the fishing jetty.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abdul Salim Tajudin stated, "This is the government's responsibility to assist the people, particularly fishermen, by providing better and safer facilities for their fishing activities," after inspecting the facilities in Kampung Kurung Tengar. He noted that the improvements would benefit about 600 fishermen in the area.
Meanwhile, Kampung Kurung Tengar fisherman representative Ramli Hamad, 49, expressed that the upgraded facilities would make it easier for them to go out to sea and improve their overall comfort. "Previously, the jetty was in a dilapidated condition and fishermen had difficulty accessing the water because there was no proper pathway. With this assistance, the facilities will be improved for all fishermen here," he said.
Abdul Salim also mentioned that LKIM had provided RM22,000 in aid to two fishermen affected by a fire in Kampung Seberang Alor, Kuala Perlis on June 13, with each receiving RM11,000 to support their livelihood and help them continue their fishing activities.
