RM1.1 Billion Semiconductor Deal Probe In Final Stages, Two Identified To Be Charged – Azam Baki

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is in the final stages of its investigation into a RM1.1 billion investment linked to a semiconductor strategic cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Economy and a UK-based company, Arm Holdings. Chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki revealed that 22 witnesses have been called so far, including former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and political analyst Chai Jin Shern, also known as James Chai.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the investigation is nearing completion with only two more witnesses left to have their statements recorded-one in Taiwan and one locally. Azam stated that two individuals have been identified for potential charges, but declined to disclose their identities, noting that the final decision rests with the Attorney-General.

Azam further mentioned that Rafizi's statement recording is expected to conclude today. The probe primarily focuses on offences under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 involving abuse of power, as well as potential violations related to cheating under Section 420 and criminal breach of trust under Section 409 of the Penal Code.

The MACC initiated its investigation on February 16 after receiving complaints from several non-governmental organisations. These complaints alleged that the agreement was expedited and biased, potentially leading to financial repercussions for the government.
