Kangar: The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, has called for intensified efforts in managing and conserving the forests along the Nakawan Range, describing the area as not only a unique forest landscape but also a valuable state treasure and national asset that must be preserved for future generations. His Royal Highness urged all stakeholders to play their respective roles in ensuring that conservation initiatives achieve their intended objectives and continue to protect the area's rich natural heritage.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin emphasized the importance of collective action during his speech at the closing ceremony of the Nakawan Rainforest Festival. The event took place in conjunction with the state-level International Forest Day celebration at the Bukit Ayer Eco-Forest Park, Sungai Batu Pahat Ecotourism Complex. The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, was also present at the ceremony.
The Raja of Perlis expressed confidence in the Forestry Department's ability to lead efforts in preserving and conserving the state's forest resources and natural heritage. He highlighted the department's vision of becoming a leading authority in sustainable tropical forest management.
Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin noted the significance of the Nakawan Rainforest Festival in supporting the Perlis government's conservation efforts. The festival aimed to conserve biodiversity, protect geological heritage, document archaeological values, and preserve local culture and traditions associated with the Nakawan Range. The festival, held from May 30 until today, also served as a platform to raise public awareness about the importance of forests and to encourage greater community involvement in conservation and sustainable management efforts.
He stressed that the success of conservation initiatives relies not only on government agencies but also on the active participation and commitment of the wider community.
