KUALA LUMPUR: The government’s firm stance in fighting corruption at all levels, including the grassroots, has not only improved the country’s image in terms of the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) but has also garnered international recognition, the Dewan Rakyat was told today. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this was evident when the Government of Qatar requested the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to collaborate in designing an anti-corruption programme for Islamic countries.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted during the Minister’s Question Time that Qatar has expressed a keen interest in Malaysia’s anti-corruption measures. He disclosed that Qatar has requested a significant team, involving a minister and the MACC, to work on developing this programme aimed at Islamic countries. This collaboration task has been assigned to the MACC, underlining Malaysia’s progress and recognition in the global fight against corruption.
The Prime Minister’s remarks were in resp
onse to Datuk Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) regarding the achievements of the MADANI Government after two years in power, highlighting efforts to combat corruption. Malaysia’s improved position in the CPI, released by Transparency International in 2023, shows a score of 50 points, up from 47 points the previous year, further indicating the effectiveness of the government’s anti-corruption strategies.
