Public Service Must Adapt to Economic, Public Needs, Says Dr Zaliha

Kuala Lumpur: The public service must continuously adapt to the evolving economic landscape and the increasingly complex needs of the people, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa said. She emphasized that the public service system must become more responsive and innovative to ensure optimal service delivery amidst modern demands.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zaliha highlighted the necessity of fostering a more open and collaborative work culture to avoid siloed practices that can impede information sharing and operational efficiency. She expressed confidence in the potential for progress and implementation of necessary initiatives with adequate political will.

During her speech at the launch of the Federal Territories Carnival and Putrajaya Open Day 2025 (POD2025), Dr Zaliha outlined the government’s ongoing efforts to address legacy issues in the Federal Territories. One such initiative is the redevelopment of the ageing Datuk Keramat Market in Kuala Lumpur aimed at enhancing the well-being of traders and the local community.

In Labuan, special attention is being given to developing the island’s tourism sector as an alternative to its oil and gas industry. For Putrajaya, the focus is shifting from being a leading smart city to achieving visionary smart city status by 2030, which requires comprehensive reforms in public service delivery to enhance efficiency and innovation.

Dr Zaliha also mentioned that the four-day Federal Territories Carnival and POD2025 event reflects the government’s commitment to bringing services directly to the people. An estimated 100,000 visitors are expected, with over 450 vendors and exhibitors participating. She noted the significant impact of the event, citing the success of previous editions of POD, which generated an impressive return on investment, with total revenue reaching RM15 million.
